If you watch the following video, you will see a classic example of what happens when a player watches the shot and does not find a person to box out. As James Posey shoots the 3 pointer, Pau Gasol watches the flight of the ball the whole time, instead of immediately looking to find someone to box out. The result is a nice follow-up slam by Kevin Garnett.
Gasol could have prevented the offensive rebound by looking around and finding Garnett and then putting a body on him.
