In watching the series between the Lakers and the Jazz, it became apparent why coaches tell their players to try grabbing rebounds with two hands. Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol kept trying to grab rebounds with one hand and with a physical team like Utah, it took a simple bump either on the body or on the arm to cause the ball to come loose and available to the Jazz.
If a player is only able to get a rebound by reaching with one arm, then more than likely they did not do a good job of boxing out. A player should box out to get into a position to grab a rebound with two hands. With good positioning, they will not have to try and reach for the ball, but simply jump towards it reaching with both hands and securing it tightly.
